Pasargadae (from Ancient Greek: Πασαργάδαι, from Old Persian Pāθra-gadā, “protective club” or “strong club”; Modern Persian: پاسارگاد Pāsārgād) was the capital of the Achaemenid Empire under Cyrus the Great who had issued its construction (559–530 BC); it was also the location of his tomb. It was a city in ancient Persia, located near the city of Shiraz (in Pasargad County), and is today an archaeological site and one of Iran’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Perspolis was built by Darius the Great in 515 BCE as a palace complex for the celebration of Nowruz (Persian New Year) and the focus for imperial tribute. It was the ceremonial centre for the Persia’s Achaemenid Empire for 200 years. Stars Valley on Qeshm Island, Iran. This badlands area was carved out by wind and rain during the Pleistocene Epoch, approximately 2 million years ago. In places, the canyon is 50 ft (15 m) below the surface of the plateau it has eroded from and is adorned with oddly shaped arches, columns and passageways. It’s name seems to be derived from the legend that it was formed from a falling star (meteor).
